Nominal Ledger Journals
Introduction
NL Journal Excelerator allows Sage journals to be entered into Excel. It includes these features:
- Excelerator flexible design of input templates, including using existing spreadsheets.
- The ability to browse Sage data from the spreadsheet.
- Post a single journal or multiple journals from a single worksheet.
- It can extract posted journals and held journals from Sage for easy reversal.
- Single value range, or credit/debit ranges.
- The ability to post different journals from different sheets in a workbook.
- The ability to post to different Sage companies from different sheets with the workbook, specifying the company on the sheet.
- An option to validate before posting. This option will display a list of errors.
Journals created from NL Journal Excelerator will appear as unposted journals in Sage. They can be viewed and posted from General Ledger->Tasks->Journal Entry, or posted from Journal Batch Posting.
Please see this Quick Tutorial.

Standard templates
The standards template S200NLJournalTemplate.xlsx and "S200NLJournalTemplate with reversing date" are supplied with Excelerator.
S200NLJournalTemplate.xlsx has worksheets:
- Single - allows entry of one journal.
- Multiple - allows entry of multiple journals.
- SingleWithRecurringDates - allow entry of one journal with recurring dates
You can design your template using the Template Designer.
Minimum Ranges
The value "credit" and "debit" or the "value" ranges must be on the spreadsheet.
Options
Don't clear header ranges?
If you click 'Clear All' in a single worksheet from the Excelerator ribbon, it will not clear the data downloaded/updated at header ranges. It will help to use the details for the next journal.
Ignore the recurring date message?.
This applies to journals being saved with recurring dates. If the recurring date already exists, a warning will be displayed if this is not ticked.
Always overwrite held journal if title exists?
If the journal title entered on the sheet already exists on a held journal in Sage, Excelerator will overwrite the existing journal. A warning will be displayed before overwriting if this option is not ticked. No warning will be displayed if ticked, and the existing journal will be overwritten.
Disable transaction analysis validation?
This disables the validation that checks whether any entered transaction analysis code is valid. We have introduced this feature so that Excelerator can match Sage's import, which doesn't validate transaction analysis. To use this feature, you must have this permission: Nominal Ledger->Import Data File (Sage.MMS.NominalLedger.ImportNominalLedgerDataForm.)
Entering NL Journals
You can enter journals in the Standard templates supplied with Excelerator or design your own.
You can enter a single invoice or multiple invoices in a single worksheet.
You may want to Validate Sage Data before you save. Use the Save to Sage button to save the data.
It is populated with calculated data after the save.
Default Data
As with all Excelerators, NL Journal Excelerator will try to use default values where none are entered.
Excelerator will process all rows with a nominal code or expense code. Zero or blank values will be ignored, as well as lines without nominal or project/expense codes. Processing will continue on the following line.
Single or Multiple Journals
You can enter a single journal (with multiple analysis lines) or multiple journals on the same sheet. You must have at least the journal reference and title ranges as a column to enter multiple journals.
Examples of both can be seen in the Standard templates;
Downloads
Posted Journals
This download will display a browse listing all posted NL transactions. You will be able to select either one transaction or multiple transactions if your worksheet allows multiple journals to be entered.
All transactions with the selected reference(s) will be downloaded onto the worksheet.
Held Journals
This download will display a browse listing all held journals.
You will be able to select either one transaction or multiple transactions if your worksheet allows multiple journals to be entered.
All transactions with the selected reference(s) will be downloaded onto the worksheet.
See Browse/Download Sage Data for general help on using this feature's browse.
